In the Sunshine State | Mercedes & Chris

Posted on December 22, 2009

Mercedes and I met in college her freshman year. I was the big man on campus from New York City and she was a little skinny girl with a squeaky voice from Tampa, Fl. Despite her squeaky voice shortcomings (I kid, I kid) we quickly became really good friends. Our friends were friends which made it really easy for everyone to hang out. Mercedes moved back to Florida after only two years in Rhode Island. Who could blame her? I sure couldn’t, New England weather isn’t really desirable. So when deciding between New England gray skies vs. Florida bliss the decision for her to leave wasn’t a tough one. But despite our distance we always remained in contact.

I was happy when I received a call from her early this year telling me she was engaged to be married to boyfriend Chris. She also requested that I be her wedding photographer in Fort Lauderdale, FL. Needless to say I was beyond honored to be apart of their special day.

A team effort.

Mercedes made these flip-flops for her bridesmaids. Each one had their names designed on it along with a nickname. I thought this was a cool and thoughtful gesture because I often hear from bridesmaids about their aching feet :)

The happenings…

Posted on December 10, 2009

We’ve been pretty much done with weddings since the last week of November. Lately we’ve just been booking 2010 weddings and shooting engagement sessions. I thought it would be pretty calm until March but I was wrong. For almost every wedding we book, we have an engagement session as well. Our couples really take advantage of this since our e-sessions are free of charge at the time of booking. This is a really cool incentive that we offer. So for the next few weeks or so we’ll be doing engagements, engagements, and more engagements. :)

E-sessions really set the tone for the wedding. We get to interact with our couples on a personal level. Not everyone is used to having a camera in their face for 1-2hrs and we understand that. These sessions aren’t only really for taking wonderful images, but they’re also to help our clients get comfortable with and used to us. Our business model is built around being personable. Sometimes after our sessions we go to dinner with our clients or just end up at a remote location and talk for hours about life and relationships. Not because we force the issue, but because we want to solidify their trust.

Enough blabbing. I’ll leave you with something from a recent engagement session…

Blowing bubbles

Posted on December 7, 2009

Ahhh… it’s good to be back! It’s Monday and I’m starting the work week off with an uptempo post.

My mother still tells me I act like a kid. Well there’s not much I can do about that :) It keeps me young. Life’s way too short to be a grouch. Children bring joy to those around them because of their innocence and their ambitions. Some children run as fast as they can for no reason at all. Some children like to blow bubbles and are amazed when they disappear. Some children like to stare at draining systems and imagine where all that water goes. But only Carter can do all those things in a one hour photo session. :)

I had fun photographing Carter. It didn’t feel like work at all. Here are a few of my favorites…

I haven’t posted anything new in about 2 weeks and I’m feeling a bit down. The only reason why I’m feeling this way is because  I have a few things I’d like to post but my recent schedule doesn’t permit blogging time. So I’m sort of breaking my own rules and going off schedule to say “Hi”. I took the week of Thanksgiving off but now I’m back in full effect. Thanks to my secret followers that have been bearing with me. :)

I’ll leave you with a little “sumthin, sumthin”…
