Gobble Gobble – Happy Thanksgiving

Posted on November 26, 2009

Hey Friends,

I must admit cooking was never really my thing. :-)   It’s safer for me to stay near a camera rather than a stove. I am very happy to have made a connection with you this year. I have so much to be thankful for. This year I’ve photographed many special moments: from wonderful weddings, to madly in love engaged couples, and a number of beautiful portraits. This year has been great, and I could not have done it without you. Now don’t get me wrong, I have had my share of ups and downs, but I’ve learned that I could never appreciate the sunshine without a little rain.

I hope you enjoy your Turkey Day tomorrow. I plan on gaining a few pounds in the next few days.

New York City Engagements | Aimi & Ajani

Posted on November 20, 2009

Last week I introduced the world (and my viewers) to Aimi and Ajani. When I met with Aimi and her sister Dana at a small Starbucks near Wall Street a few months ago, she told me that we were destined to meet.  And not only that, but that I was destined to be her wedding photographer. I didn’t really think much of her statement, until…

I was on the I-95 driving down to Maryland to shoot a wedding and about an hour into NJ while driving in the middle lane I just happened to look to my left side and I saw a girl who looked sort of familiar. At first I was convinced that I was mistaken. I then thought to myself “Is that Aimi’s sister?  That’s weird.” The reason why it was so weird was because we were driving in the middle of New Jersey.  Who would have thought that I would see someone I knew, much less someone I met once before?  So while barreling down the Interstate, I called Aimi to ask her “Would your sister happen to be on the I-95 in NJ?” She replied “Possibly; she’s on her way to Maryland!”  Then she told me that she (Aimi) would be driving down to Maryland the very next day as well. I told her it was such a weird coincidence and she replied with “See, I told you, we were destined to meet!” I said “You know what, I think you’re right”. So, to make a long story short, my buddy Leo (from George Rowe Photography, who was my 2nd photographer for the wedding) and I went out to Fridays later that night and meet up with her sister, cousins, and friends who will be in Aimi’s wedding next year. It’s not every day you meet half the bridal party in an entirely different state than where the wedding will take place.

Back to more recent times, Aimi, Ajani and I eventually met up to do their engagement photos earlier this month. They were a pleasure to photograph (seriously), they were really, really cool and pretty laid back. A joy to be around. Here are a few of my ‘favs’ from their engagement session…

… Summer… Autumn… then sadness

Posted on November 17, 2009

I’ve never been a huge winter fan. I was born in March and I could never get used to the cold. Quite frankly I don’t understand how anyone could. Here in NY the winters are hard, cold, and insensitive about my feelings. I’ve endured several winters shoveling snow, digging out my car, my dad’s car, my friends car, neighbors cars, and the list continues. Winters are really not cool in my book ( <- unintentional pun).

This is why the below image saddens me. It’s a nice image, there’s no doubt about it, but as I raked leaves in our yard early last Sunday and I saw this one leaf sitting on my doorstep, I couldn’t help thinking about the signal that nature gives us when it’s time to prepare for winter. This one leaf seemed to turn my mediocre glee of doing chores into sadness of what’s to come. If we could skip winter and go to spring, I’d be A OK with that.

I’m really hoping that this winter is as modest as the last… I can’t take another 1996 winter!

Newport, NJ Engagements | Cherise & Shann

When I attended Washington Irving High School in NYC just a few years ago, I had lots of different teachers from various backgrounds and amazingly many of them were single. However, I would never ever think of hooking any of them up with each other nor did it even come to mind. As a matter of fact the more I think about it, it would be pretty weird for me to talk to them about “love” :)

In college Cherise and Shann were tutors for high school students. Their students took it upon themselves to see that they both found happiness with each other. Who knew that Shann would later ask Cherise to be his future Mrs. From helping their students solve math equations, to they themselves finding the answers of true love.

They were a joy to photograph and I’m definitely looking forward to the wedding next June! See a few of my favorites below.
