New York City | The Beautiful Stranger
Posted on August 31, 2009
A few months ago I received a Facebook request from a random girl named Barbara. I usually get random requests because people admire my work, so of course I had to accept her to see what she’s about. We corresponded a few times and she told me she loved my images. (It always makes me happy when people enjoy my work.) Barbara is a New York City based Radio personality with various station in and around downstate New York. Check out her site.
So one day I got to thinking, “Maybe I should ask Barbara if she would do a test shoot for me”. Of course the thought never transpired into anything because I didn’t ask her. I was thinking “It would’ve never worked, I’m always busy and I have no time, especially for doing a test shoot”. Well, a few days went by and guess what happened? I got a message in my Facebook inbox and it was Barbara. She wanted to know if I was available to do some portraits for her in New York City. I was thrilled!
Today we spent some time in and around lower Manhattan. Here is one of my favorites:
Central Park Engagement Photos | Jen & Chicho
Posted on August 31, 2009
You might remember Jennifer and Chicho from this sneak peek post. I made that comment about them smiling way too much, well that still holds true (sorry Jennifer).
They are a classic case of college sweethearts finding true love. Last year Chicho did the whole romantic thing and proposed to Jennifer in Central Park. We did their engagement shoot in Central Park and some of the shots were done in the exact location he proposed. I was really happy that I was able to shoot them. In our initial meetings we really hit it off and I love working with these two.
Here are a few of my favorites of the day…
Chicho proposed to Jennifer here. They’re doing their Latin celebration dance.
Who would’ve thought Chicho had those kind of moves?
My FAVORITE…
See you guys in Long Island, NY next year.
New York City Wedding | Andrea & Francis
Posted on August 29, 2009
They met in college at SUNY New Paltz in upstate New York. From the beginning they were blatant opposites. She was the early bird who came to class well prepared and eager to learn. He was the typical inner city guy who walked into class listening to his iPod. But despite their differences, they became the best of friends. After 2 years of constant rejections, Andrea finally gave Francis a chance and she yes to his big question, “Will you be my girlfriend?”
Fast forwarding to the present day, it seems like Francis asked me to do their wedding photography such a long time ago, but it was only last summer. What more can I say about this couple? They are a perfect fit, they aren’t the same people and that’s what makes them POP! It’s a beautiful thing when 2 people can complement each other the way they do.
Their wedding was a blast, their first dance was actually 5 different songs, ranging from American Pop to cultural Ghanian music. They definitely got DOWN!
A few notable mentions…
Wedding Photography: Joshua Dwain Photography & assisted by George Rowe Photography
Wedding Reception: Betty’s Catering
Wedding Cake: Betty’s Catering
Wedding Planner/Coordinator: Bernadette of The Kairos Moment Weddings
Here are a few of my favorites from their special day…
Favorite!
As customary with some African nation’s weddings (Nigerian & Ghanian are the only ones I know of), the Bride and Groom are “sprayed” with money by their family, friends and loved ones. Whenever I get married, I will seriously consider giving up my American citizenship and trading it to become a Ghanian citizen a few months before the date just to get spread with $$$$.
Shooting Disappointment…
Posted on August 23, 2009
My mother always told me that every disappointment was for a reason. Well, today I hope there was a very good reason. We were on our way to Maryland to shoot an engagement session and I was very much excited to do this shoot because it was my first Wedding Engagement photography session in Maryland. Well to make a long story short, we got a flat in NJ and had to postpone the shoot. Technically we could’ve driven to Maryland on the donut but that idea wouldn’t have been a very smart one. Installing a donut is a temporary solution and I couldn’t risk damaging it on a 400 mile trip.
Am I disappointed? YES! Am I thankful to God for his many blessing in spite of my disappointment? YES!
Being the photographer that I am, I couldn’t resist pulling out my smile hungry Nikon D3. We snapped a few shots on the NJ Turnpike to lighten up the disappointing and sour mood.
Portraits Brooklyn | Gifty
Posted on August 22, 2009
We started the day around 2pm in Brooklyn, NY and the very first thing I asked her was “Are you a Model?” She replied “No, not really”. I was thinking, “Someone’s not telling the truth”
I always grew up thinking that if anything walked like a duck, and talked like a duck, we can pretty much assume it was a duck. So to me Gifty is very much a model.
I had fun shooting with Gifty, here are a few of the day.
On a side note, I’d really like to say being an New York City Wedding and Portrait Photographer rocks!!! There are so many different people with diverse backgrounds. It makes shooting everyone different and special.
See ya later folks.
